Tori's Primary Talk

Tori was asked to give the talk today in Senior Primary. Her topic was "The first principles and ordinances of the gospel make it possible for me to live with God again". I helped her organize the talk, but she came up with a lot of it on her own (she even had to choose the font!) and did a great job! Here's what she had to say:

My talk today is about how the first principles and ordinances of the gospel make it possible for me to live with God again. The fourth article of faith says We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second,Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. Faith means that we believe in something that we cannot see, like Heavenly Father and Jesus. When we have faith in Jesus Christ, we know that Jesus is always with us. We want to be nice to others and follow the commandments too. Repentance means that we ask for forgiveness in our prayers when we do something wrong, and then we try to be like Jesus. If we do not repent, then we cannot go to the Celestial Kingdom because we are not clean. When we are baptized we enter into a covenant with Heavenly Father. We promise that we will follow him and keep his commandments. He promises that we will have the Holy Ghost with us and that when we repent we will be forgiven. In John 3:5, Jesus says, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” Unless we are baptized, we cannot go to Heavenly Father and Jesus again. After we are baptized, we are confirmed by those who hold the Melchizedek priesthood and we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. When we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, we can have the Spirit to be with us at all times. The Holy Ghost helps us to return to Heavenly Father by comforting us when we are sad and by giving us guidance and strength when we need it most. The Holy Ghost can also keep us safe. Once, I was riding my bike with my eyes closed. I heard a whisper in my ears, saying “open your eyes, RIGHT NOW.” I opened my eyes and saw that I was very close to the garage and nearly crashed. If we do not listen to the Holy Ghost, we can get hurt or get into trouble.

I am thankful that we can memorize the fourth article of faith and know how to return to Heavenly Father and Jesus. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
